Krakatoa, East of Java is a 1969 American disaster film starring Maximilian Schell and Brian Keith. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. Krakatoa, One Package of Happiness - Review of Krakatau Volcano (Krakatoa), Java, Indonesia. If you have any interest in geology, especially volcanoes, and you are anywhere close to Indonesia, you really should see Anak Krakatau, so- named because it is a new island (. I just read the excellent review by Khalidfrom. Bahrain, which provides nearly all the essential details, so I will use this review to fill in around the edges with some information from my family's experience: We live in Jakarta, so we drove to Carita on Saturday and took the tour on Sunday. Unfortunately the drive was an ordeal, roughly six hours each way. We had some bad luck, hitting construction delays, but after four years in Jakarta we can say this is not unusual. We drove different routes (through Cilegon on Saturday, then the more scenic route through Pandeglang on Sunday) but they were equally bad. Krakatoa East Of Java. Just turned the telly on and this is the film thats on. Krakatoa is NOT east of Java.So you would be wise to build in plenty of drive time, and maybe have a backup plan if you arrive too late to catch the boat - it was only the unforgettable experience of reaching the island that made the drive worthwhile. We stayed Saturday night at the Mutiara Carita, a few km south of the Lippo Marina in Carita, from which the tour boats depart. So the location was good, but I can't recommend the hotel. Other hotels in Carita or Anyer would be nearly as close and hopefully with better housekeeping and service, which were our main complaints. But once we reached the marina on Sunday morning, the experience was flawless. The twin- engine boat was fast, the weather was good, and we arrived at Anak Krakatau in about 9. The hike was cool at the lower elevations, which are forested, but hot once we exited the trees. Our guide took us high enough that we could feel steam venting from the ground, with the surrounding landscape looking like Mars. Hiking or running shoes are fine, but definitely not sandals or flip- flops. After the hike, we boated around the full perimeter of the island, took more pictures, then stopped at a nearby island (Rakata) for snorkeling and lunch. The snorkeling was good, with clear water and lots of healthy coral and fish. The boat didn't carry much gear, only masks and snorkels, but the water was so calm we really didn't need fins. The lunch was fine, a box lunch of the sort served by all Indonesian tour operators, chicken and rice, a few vegetables and fruit. A monitor lizard was very interested in sharing our lunch, but was kept at a safe distance by our guide. The boat ride back was also smooth and fast. We reached Carita at about 2: 3. PM. We booked the trip through Krakatau Tours, and they were excellent in all respects. The price was 3. 5 million rupiah (about $3. US) for a family of three, half in advance and half after the trip. The boat was in good condition and our guide Masharo was superb. BTW, if you're the bookish sort and want a great read to supplement your experience, get Simon Winchester's book .
